As of January 1, 2025, Nagra brought service in-house in the US with actual Nagra employees rather than routing it through distributors and dealers, based in Tennessee. Nagra USA, Inc. 180 N. Belvedere Drive, Unit 5A, Gallatin, TN 37066 · 615-451-4168 ·

For your machine specifically, I'd make this your first call, and here's the reasoning. The "Nagra T" is the Nagra T-Audio, a large studio mastering deck with a sophisticated microprocessor-controlled servo transport. It is a completely different animal from the portable Nagra 4-series field recorders that most independent techs know. A frozen transport on that machine could be a servo board, a mechanical fault, or a power-supply issue, and diagnosing it well really benefits from T-Audio-specific knowledge and parts access.

On your actual question about a service shop in NYC:

The recognized reel-to-reel specialist in the city is Funktional Technologies (Andy) in Brooklyn. (funktionaltech.com · andrew@funktionaltech.com) · 800-404-5520. He's widely regarded as one of the rare few with the skills to properly fix and maintain these machines, with around 30 years on Teac, Otari, Ampex, Studer and similar decks. The honest caveat: his documented experience is studio and consumer decks (Studer, Otari, Ampex, Revox, Tascam), and I can't confirm he's worked on a T-Audio specifically. So call him, tell him plainly it's a Nagra T-Audio, not a 4-series, and ask directly whether he'll take it on. If yes, you have a great option 20 minutes away. If he hesitates, that itself is useful information.
