Aristona

Aristona Origins

Aristona is a brand name used by the Dutch company Philips for consumer electronics during the 1930s–1990s period. It was marketed as a more affordable alternative to Philips products. Often, Aristona products were rebranded older Philips models. Aristona produced various electronic devices, including turntables, but it is not specifically known for being a turntable manufacturer like some other British companies such as Linn or Ariston (Hamish Robertson’s company).

For information on Ariston, the turntable manufacturer founded by Hamish Robertson, it was indeed his company, and he was known for inventing the RD11 turntable. He was friends with Ivor Tiefenbrun, who started Linn with a turntable similar to the RD11, called the LP12. A legal dispute between Hamish Robertson and Linn ensued, but Hamish died from heart failure after a drinking binge. Peter Dunlop later purchased Ariston from Hamish and continued to run it until selling it to John Carrick, who then shifted focus to producing amplifiers, cables, and speakers.
