Bergmann Audio Origins
Bergmann Audio, a manufacturer of turntables and tonearms, was founded by Johnnie Bergmann Rasmussen in Denmark. The company’s origins can be traced back to Johnnie’s passion for music and high-end sound reproduction. Trained as a mechanical engineer, Johnnie developed a particular interest in air bearing techniques, which he believed to be the optimal method for building turntables and tonearms. This interest began in the 1980s when Johnnie first started his hi-fi system, which included a Micro-Seiki turntable, a Rega Research tonearm, and an Ortofon cartridge. Despite the challenges faced by many owners of air bearing systems at the time, Johnnie remained convinced of their superiority.
In 2008, Bergmann Audio launched its first turntable, the Sindre, which featured an integrated tonearm and was designed with air bearings for both the platter and the tonearm. The company has since continued to innovate, introducing new models like the Galder and the Modi, which uses technology from the Galder to provide a more affordable entry-level air bearing solution. All Bergmann Audio products are designed, developed, produced, and assembled in-house by Johnnie Bergmann Rasmussen in the small town of Hobro, Denmark.
