Bush Origins

Bush Radio, the manufacturer of the MTT1 turntable, was established in 1932 in Shepherd's Bush, London. The company originated from the remnants of the Amplion company and began as a subsidiary of the Gaumont British Picture Corporation. This strategic move aimed to leverage the burgeoning relationship between radio and cinema, as the founder, Gilbert Darnley-Smith, recognized the potential for radio technology to complement film production.

Initially focused on radio manufacturing, Bush quickly gained prominence in the UK market, producing a range of radios that were marketed through Gaumont's cinema networks. The brand flourished post-World War II under the Rank Organisation, which acquired it in 1945. This period marked significant expansion for Bush, including diversification into television production.

In 1962, Bush merged with Murphy Radio to form Rank-Bush Murphy (RBM), which shifted its focus towards scientific instruments. The Bush brand continued to exist but eventually faded from prominence in the 1980s, leading to its acquisition by Alba plc in 1986, which utilized the brand for lower-cost products manufactured in China.

The MTT1 turntable represents a continuation of Bush's legacy in audio equipment, blending historical craftsmanship with modern design.
