Electrocompaniet

Electrocompaniet Origins

Electrocompaniet, a renowned Norwegian manufacturer of high-fidelity audio equipment, was established in 1973 by Per Abrahamsen and Svein Erik Børja. The company's origins trace back to Børja's involvement in the music industry as a producer and his attendance at the Audio Engineering Society (AES) convention where he was introduced to groundbreaking research on audio distortion by Dr. Matti Otala. This research focused on Transient Intermodulation Distortion (TIM), which would later influence the design of Electrocompaniet's products.

Initially, Electrocompaniet began as a small business focused on importing inexpensive Bulgarian speakers and creating basic public address systems. However, inspired by Otala's work, Børja sought to develop a high-quality transistor amplifier that would outperform existing models. Collaborating with Abrahamsen, they produced their first significant product, The 2 Channel Audio Power Amplifier, also known as "The Otala Amplifier," which gained acclaim for its superior sound quality.

The amplifier's success was marked by a positive review in The Audio Critic, which claimed it to be the best-sounding amplifier available at the time. This acclaim helped establish Electrocompaniet's reputation in both home audio systems and professional recording studios.

Over the years, the company expanded its product line to include turntables, CD players, and other high-end audio equipment, all designed and manufactured in Norway.

Electrocompaniet's legacy continues to thrive today, with its products being recognized for their exceptional sound quality and engineering innovation. The brand has maintained a loyal following among audiophiles and professionals alike, further solidifying its status as a leading name in high-fidelity audio
