Esoteric Origins
Esoteric is a division of the Japanese company TEAC, which specializes in the production of high-end electronic equipment. Esoteric was established as a structural division of TEAC to cater to the needs of audiophiles seeking high-tech audio system components.
The company has a rich history in the audio industry, with its origins dating back to the late 1980s when it introduced models like the reference P-1/D-1 CD players and the R-1 DAT recorder. These early models featured the VRDS-NEO mechanics, a technology that would become a hallmark of Esoteric’s products.
Esoteric’s first turntable, the Grandioso T1, was introduced in 2023 to commemorate the company’s 35th anniversary. This turntable represents a significant milestone for Esoteric, as it marks the company’s first foray into the turntable market. The Grandioso T1 is designed with a unique “contact-free” MagneDrive system, developed by mechanical engineer Takao Tanishima, who is also responsible for Esoteric’s VRDS-NEO and VRDS-ATLAS mechanisms. This innovative system aims to provide superior sound quality and performance.
