Ferguson Origins
Ferguson Electronics, which manufactures audio equipment including turntables, has its origins in the early 20th century. Initially, it was an American-Canadian company that manufactured radio sets for the UK market based on contemporary American models. After World War II, it became Ferguson Radio Corporation and started making radio receivers and televisions. In the late 1950s, it was taken over by Thorn Electrical Industries, but the Ferguson brand continued to be used by Thorn and its successor, Thorn EMI. Throughout its early history, Ferguson products were very popular and by the early 1960s, the company offered a wide range of audio and TV equipment, including turntables.
In 1987, the Ferguson brand was sold to the French electronics company Thomson, which later withdrew from the European consumer electronics market. In the UK, the Ferguson brand was licensed to various companies over the years, and in 2017, it was relaunched by British television manufacturer Cello Electronics.
