Origins of Fonica

Fonica, a Polish audio company known for manufacturing high-end turntables, has a long history linked to playback devices. The brand itself is much older than the current incarnation of the company. Audio-Fonica, the manufacturer, has been on the market since 2012, but the Fonica brand has a 56-year-long history.

Unitra, another Polish manufacturer, has a connection to Fonica. According to Unitra’s marketing manager, Kasia Binkiewicz, Unitra began its latest phase in the high-end market in October 2023. She mentioned that Unitra has heritage from the old Unitra and Fonica models and manufacturing plant, which in the late '70s or '80s, were producing around 10,000 turntables every year, including those for many Western companies such as Thorens and Thomson.
