Hacker Origins
Hacker Radio Limited, founded by brothers Ron and Arthur Hacker in 1959, was a manufacturer of domestic radio and audio equipment based in Maidenhead, England. The company was established after the Hacker brothers left Dynatron, which they had founded in the late 1920s and was later acquired by Ekco in 1955. Ron and Arthur decided to start their own company due to discomfort with the arrangements at Ekco. Hacker Radio Limited operated successfully until 1977, but financial difficulties led to the company being sold and relaunched as Hacker Sound, which closed in 1979. While Hacker Radio Limited did not specifically focus on manufacturing turntables, the company’s expertise in audio equipment would have included turntable technology.
