ITT

ITT Origins

The ITT  company, known for manufacturing the HiFi 8013 turntables, has its origins rooted in the broader history of ITT Inc., which was established in 1920. Originally founded as the International Telephone & Telegraph Corporation by Sosthenes and Hernand Behn, ITT began as a small telecommunications provider in Puerto Rico and quickly expanded through strategic acquisitions in the telecommunications sector, including significant purchases in Europe during the 1920s and 1930s.

In the late 1970s, ITT diversified into consumer electronics, which included audio equipment. This expansion was part of a broader trend where ITT acquired various companies to bolster its presence in different markets. By this time, ITT had established a reputation for producing high-quality consumer electronics, including televisions and audio devices.

The HiFi 8013 turntable itself was manufactured around 1980 in Germany. It featured a direct drive system and was known for its quality sound reproduction, making it a notable model among audiophiles. The design of the HiFi 8013 was influenced by other high-end turntables of the era, including those made by Micro Seiki, indicating a collaboration or shared technology within the industry

Overall, ITT's journey from a telecommunications giant to a player in the audio equipment market illustrates its adaptability and strategic growth through acquisitions and diversification into consumer electronics.
