Jadis

Origins of Jadis

Jadis, an audio company known for manufacturing high-quality turntables, preamplifiers, and amplifiers, was founded in 1983 by André Calmettes. Calmettes, a self-taught expert in tube technology and an audiophile, started the company in Villedubert, France, after creating his own tube amplifier. His passion for sound reproduction and his desire to recreate the emotions experienced during live concerts in a home environment drove him to establish Jadis Electronics.

In the 1980s, Calmettes met Jean-Paul Caffi, a pharmaceutical sales representative who took on the commercial side of the business. Together, they founded Jadis. Over the years, the company has grown to include 12 employees, but it maintains a focus on craftsmanship and high-quality materials, such as gold, non-magnetic stainless steel, and ceramics. The company is known for its rigorous testing process and hand-wound output transformers, which are encapsulated in a special resin to ensure thermal stability and waterproofing.

Jadis is recognized for its dedication to tube technology and has been a significant player in the French high-fidelity market. The company’s products are designed to offer a natural and warm sound, with a particular emphasis on the quality of the tubes used. These tubes are rigorously selected to ensure the best performance, and the company has even manufactured its own transformers using a secret technique.

Today, Jadis continues to innovate and improve its products, with recent advancements in the Jadis MkII and MkIII models featuring enhanced transformers and improved internal wiring. The company’s turntables and other audio equipment are suitable for both home use and professional recording studios, making Jadis a respected name in the audiophile community.
