Jensen Origins

Jensen, the audio company known for manufacturing turntables and other audio equipment, has its origins in 1927. Founded by Peter L. Jensen, a Danish inventor with a passion for audio technology, the company started in a small workshop in Chicago, Illinois. Initially, Jensen focused on manufacturing electronic components and transformers. Over time, the company expanded into creating speakers and turntables, becoming a prominent player in the early days of radio and audio equipment.

Peter L. Jensen, one of the co-founders of Magnavox, left California and moved to Chicago to start the Jensen Radio Manufacturing company. Within two years, Jensen provided OEM speakers for 60% of independent radio manufacturers in the US. Jensen continued to innovate, realizing the limitations of single-driver speakers and exploring ways to improve his designs.

Jacob Jensen, a Danish industrial designer, is also associated with audio products, particularly through his work with Bang & Olufsen. He designed over 200 products, including radios, speakers, and turntables, contributing significantly to the minimalist design style that became characteristic of Bang & Olufsen’s products. However, Jacob Jensen’s work is distinct from the Jensen Electronics company founded by Peter L. Jensen.
