Metaxas & Sins
Metaxas & Sins is a high-end audio manufacturer based in the Netherlands, founded by Kostas Metaxas in 1981. Kostas, an Australian of Greek heritage, is a self-taught electrical engineer, artist, and prolific recording engineer who has made hundreds of live concert recordings using magnetic open-reel tape. His passion for audio and design led him to create what he describes as “high-end audio sculptures” and “kinetic art objects,” blending cutting-edge sound technology with striking industrial design.
Originally starting his audio business in Europe after studying medical sciences in West Germany, Kostas’ handmade audio equipment quickly gained attention, leading to early sales through German audiophile shops. Over time, the company evolved into an innovative and award-winning enterprise where design, art, and hi-fi meet. Kostas is supported by his two sons, Alessandros and Andreas, who contribute their skills in circuit design, programming, and firmware development, ensuring the brand remains at the forefront of modern audio technology.
Metaxas & Sins is renowned for creating unique, ultra-luxury audio products that are as much works of art as they are high-performance devices. Their products, including the groundbreaking Papillon reel-to-reel tape recorder-the first new reel-to-reel machine built in over 50 years-reflect Kostas’ vision of combining sonic excellence with sculptural aesthetics. The company relocated its base to the Netherlands to benefit from a supportive business environment conducive to innovation, allowing Kostas and his family to focus on creativity and craftsmanship.
Today, Metaxas & Sins continues to produce meticulously handcrafted audio equipment that has earned acclaim from audiophiles and critics worldwide, including endorsements from prestigious publications like The Absolute Sound. The company remains a small, family-run operation dedicated to pushing the boundaries of audio design and technology while maintaining an artisanal approach to manufacturing
