NAD

NAD Origins

NAD Electronics was founded in 1972 by Martin Borish in London, UK. Borish, along with a group of seven large European distributors, established the company in response to a lack of high-quality, affordable audio devices on the market. Initially, NAD focused on creating simple but elegant audio equipment with high performance and accessible prices. The company’s first significant product was the NAD 3020 amplifier, which became the highest-selling amplifier in history.

NAD’s approach to audio engineering emphasizes “effective power,” which allows their amplifiers to deliver dynamic power bursts far beyond their rated RMS power. This concept was developed by Phill Marshall and has been refined over the years under various names such as Power Envelope and PowerDrive.

In 1991, NAD was acquired by AudioNord, a Danish firm, and subsequently sold to the Lenbrook Group of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, in 1999. Today, NAD continues to produce a wide range of audio components including amplifiers, preamps, DACs, headphones, and turntables, maintaining its commitment to offering high-quality sound at accessible prices.
