Nakamichi Origins

Nakamichi Corporation, known for its high-quality audio products including turntables, was founded in 1948 by Etsuro Nakamichi in Tokyo, Japan. Initially named Nakamichi Research Corporation Ltd, the company started as a research and development firm focusing on electromagnetism, magnetic recording, acoustics, and communications. It later became renowned for manufacturing portable radios, tonearms, speakers, and communications equipment. The company’s transition to selling products under the Nakamichi name began in 1972, with the introduction of the world’s first three-head cassette deck, the Nakamichi 1000, which significantly boosted its reputation in the audio industry.
