Orpheus
Origins of Orpheus
Orpheus Sound Reproduction Equipment Pty. Ltd., based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, was the manufacturer of the Orpheus Silex turntables. This company patented and produced one of the first transcription turntables that featured an isolated unit with the platter, spindle, and spindle bearing, along with the pickup, all mounted as a single floating unit relative to the rest of the record player. This innovative design aimed to enhance sound quality by reducing vibrations and noise.
