Pro-Ject

Pro-Ject Origins

Pro-Ject Audio Systems, founded in 1991 by Heinz Lichtenegger in Austria, emerged during a time when digital audio formats were rapidly gaining popularity, leading many to believe that vinyl records were obsolete. Lichtenegger's vision was to provide high-quality analog audio experiences at affordable prices, countering the trend of expensive digital equipment.

The company's origins trace back to the old Tesla factory in the Czech Republic, which had a rich history of producing high-quality electronics. Lichtenegger recognized the potential of the factory's existing design and manufacturing capabilities after discovering a turntable model called the Tesla NC 500. This led to the development of Pro-Ject's first product, the Pro-Ject 1, which was essentially a modified version of the Tesla design.

The production at this facility has continued to this day, with all turntables being handmade and subjected to rigorous quality control processes.

Pro-Ject quickly gained recognition in the hi-fi community, with early models receiving rave reviews. This success facilitated international distribution, allowing Pro-Ject to expand its reach and product offerings significantly. Today, Pro-Ject is known for its diverse range of turntables catering to both beginners and audiophiles, maintaining a commitment to quality craftsmanship and sustainability by producing its goods in Europe.

The company has established itself as a leader in the revival of vinyl culture, shipping products to over 80 countries worldwide
