Rabco
Origins of Rabco
Rabco, the manufacturer of turntables, has its origins in the 1970s. The company was based in Maryland and became known for its SL-8 and SL-8E tangential-tracking tonearms. These tonearms were notable for their reliability despite their mechanical complexity, featuring two electrical motors. Rabco’s tonearms found their way onto respected turntables of the early 1970s, such as the Thorens TD-125 and Technics SL-1100. Rabco later produced its own complete linear-tracking turntable, the ST-4, which was followed by the more sophisticated ST-6, ST-7, and ST-8 models. In the mid-1970s, Rabco was acquired by Harman Kardon, leading to the production of the ST-7 under the Harman Kardon brand.
