Rauna

Origins of Rauna

Rauna, an audio company known for its innovative speaker designs, was founded in Sweden in early 1982 by Bo Hansson, Lennart Bergstedt, and Olle Neckman. The company aimed to create an acoustically perfect and stable but affordable speaker cabinet, a combination that was unprecedented in conventional loudspeakers. The name “Rauna” was derived from the family name “Raunavaara” of Bo Hansson’s grandparents and “Runa,” which refers to ancient inscribed Nordic stones. This naming was intended to transcend time, serving as a tribute to ancestors and symbolizing stability.

Bo Hansson, one of the founders, was passionate about achieving a very natural sound reproduction. Rauna’s success was immediate, and the company held more than half of the market share for high-quality speakers in Sweden during its peak years. The company also exported its products to countries like the USA, Germany, Norway, and Denmark.

Regarding turntables, Rauna produced the Continuo model, which is still in production today. This turntable was part of the Opus 3 portfolio, a brand that Bo Hansson started in 1984 after leaving Rauna due to disagreements within the company. The Continuo was designed by Bo Hansson and built under his watchful eye, reflecting his commitment to natural sound reproduction.

In 2003, Bo Hansson bought back the Rauna brand and the concrete cabinet molding equipment, which had been purchased by another company formed by him after Rauna’s financial struggles and liquidation in the early 1990s. Since then, Rauna has continued to produce high-quality audio equipment, including the Continuo turntable.
