Redpoint Audio

Redpoint Audio Origins

Redpoint Audio was founded by Thom Mackris and Peter Clark, who were initially part of the Teres turntable project. The Teres project began in early 2000 when Chris Brady and Thom Mackris attracted 52 people to form a co-op to make turntable parts relatively cheaply. However, Mackris was not satisfied with Brady’s business plan and decided to form a new company with Peter Clark. They named their company Redpoint Audio, inspired by their shared interest in rock climbing, where “redpoint” refers to successfully completing a climb without failing the first attempt. The company focused on designing and manufacturing high-quality turntables, emphasizing the importance of mass and damping in their designs. In spring 2003, Mackris and Clark parted ways, with Clark continuing Redpoint Audio and Mackris forming his own company, Galibier.
