SABA

Origins of Saba

SABA, an electronics manufacturer, originated in 1835 as a clock-making company founded by Joseph Benedikt Schwer in Triberg im Schwarzwald (Black Forest), Germany. The company later moved to Villingen in 1918. Herman Schwer, the founder’s grandson, expanded the business to include the manufacturing of headphones, radio parts, and various products from radio components to receivers.

SABA ventured into the radio market in 1927, becoming a significant player in the recording and broadcasting industry. They also created their own music label before selling it a few years later. In the 1950s, SABA began manufacturing and marketing refrigerators, including the famous “Saba K 50” model.

Regarding turntables, SABA did not initially manufacture its own turntables but rather rebranded products from other companies. In the mid-1960s, when SABA attempted to enter the Hi-Fi market, they chose Dual, a leader in the turntable segment, to produce turntables under the SABA brand. This collaboration allowed SABA to offer high-quality turntables to their customers while leveraging Dual’s expertise in the field.
