Tesla Origins

The origins of the Tesla audio company, which manufactures turntables, can be traced back to the former Tesla concern in Czechoslovakia. This company was a state-owned conglomerate that produced electronic appliances and components from 1946 until 1991. After the fall of communism, Tesla underwent significant changes, including downsizing and privatization. One of its former subsidiaries, SEV Litovel, the world's largest turntable manufacturer, continues to produce high-end turntables for the Austrian Pro-Ject company. The company name Tesla has been retained by a private company, Tesla a.s., which trades on the Prague stock exchange and manufactures radio and security equipment.
