Origins of Townshend Audio

Townshend Audio, a manufacturer of high-end audio equipment including turntables, was founded by Max Townshend. The company has its roots in the UK and is known for its innovative designs and engineering. Max Townshend, an Australian who moved to the UK in 1978, was a pioneer in audio technology. He introduced several unique concepts in the industry, such as exotic stylus shapes for phono cartridges, metal drivers, and ultra-rigid enclosures for speakers. The Townshend Audio Rock turntable series, which includes the Rock 7, is one of the company’s most notable products. These turntables are designed to eliminate vibrations and resonances that can interfere with sound quality, featuring a polyethylene platter and a damping trough on the tonearm for superior performance. The company continues to develop and refine its products based on the principles established by Max Townshend.
