Uher

Uher Origins

The Uher audio company, known for its portable reel-to-reel tape recorders, was based in Munich, Germany. It was originally established to manufacture audio equipment, including turntables. However, with the widespread adoption of digital equipment, the production of these older analogue recording machines ceased. Two parts of the Uher company still exist: one focused on informatics, and the other, ATIS Uher, focused on IT security. The Uher model 5000 was notably involved in the Nixon White House tapes scandal. The company’s portable reel-to-reel tape recorders, such as the Report 4000 series, were widely used by professionals in fields like reporting and film-making.
