Unamco
Origins of Unamco
The Unamco T-1 turntable was manufactured by Audio Stockholm in Sweden from 1973 to 1978. The company behind Unamco was run by Bengt Sandels, who had previously imported French ERA turntables to Sweden. When ERA went out of business, Sandels designed the Unamco T-1 turntable and sold it under the Unamco name, which he had been using for a line of mixers. The T-1 turntable features a belt drive, a floating subchassis, and a platter with most of its weight concentrated at the outer rim to reduce mass while still providing a good flywheel effect. The tonearm is 11 inches long, which minimizes tracking error. Approximately 10,000 units of the Unamco T-1 were produced during its manufacturing period.
