Additional Information

The AEG Telefunken Magnetophon 75 (also known simply as Magnetophon 75) is a portable half-track mono tape recorder from the late 1950s, produced around 1958–1962 by Telefunken under AEG's Magnetophon division in Germany. It was a direct evolution from earlier KL-series portables, offering refined tube electronics and dual speeds in both tabletop (75T) and suitcase (75K) formats for home recording and radio dubbing.

Variants and Context

  • Magnetophon 75K: Full portable suitcase with speaker and carry case

  • Magnetophon 75T: Tabletop amplifier version (no speaker/case)

  • 75 de Luxe/15: Updated 1959 version (KL75/15) with 5¾" reels, horizontal level bar, and tone control

  • Baugleich (identical construction) across AEG/Telefunken branding; priced ~469–598 DM new

The Magnetophon 75 delivered respectable mid-1950s consumer performance (5/10 sound/reliability ratings), with permalloy heads extending highs and tubes providing characteristic warmth. It improved slightly on the KL-65 with frequency response and build quality. Modern restoration typically involves capacitor refresh, idler tires, and head demagnetization. Collectible as an accessible example of AEG/Telefunken's consumer mono era, bridging early portables and later pro designs like the M-series.
