Additional Information

The Ampex ATR-700 is a highly reliable, professional solid-state reel-to-reel tape recorder introduced in 1976, designed for use with 1/4-inch tape and compatible with 5, 7, or 10½-inch reels.

Key Technical Specifications:

  • Track System: Available in full track, two track, and quarter track configurations, with capabilities of mono and stereo operation.

  • Tape Speeds: Two selectable speeds per model—either 3¾ and 7½ ips, or 7½ and 15 ips.

  • Tape Width: 1/4-inch tape format.

  • Heads: Standard three-head design (erase, record, playback) with an option for a fourth playback/sync head for quadraphonic compatibility.

  • Motors: Three motors—two reel motors and one direct-drive DC servo capstan motor for consistent tape speed.

  • Wow and Flutter: Approximately 0.08% WRMS at 7½ and 15 ips, and 0.12% at 3¾ ips.

  • Frequency Response: Around 40 Hz to 15 kHz ±2dB at 7½ ips and up to 18 kHz at 15 ips.

  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio: 55 dB for four-track operation, 60 dB for two-track operation at 7½ ips.

  • Controls: Pushbutton operations for record, play, rewind, fast forward, stop, edit functions with tape lifters and cue modes.

  • Features: IC logic control for error-free operation, motion sensing logic for smooth transitions, rewind-stop memory switch, adjustable pitch control (±5%), and remote control capability.

  • Dimensions: About 21 x 17 x 10 inches (533 x 356 x 254 mm).

  • Weight: Approximately 62 lbs (28.2 kg).

  • Connectors: Professional XLR inputs and outputs as opposed to consumer RCA.

Additional Notes:
