Additional Information

The Bang & Olufsen Beocord 1500 Deluxe is a 1965–1969 high-end stereo reel-to-reel tape deck, a transport-only version of the Beocord 1500/2000 De Luxe family without built-in power amp or mixer, designed for integration into existing hi-fi systems like the Beomaster 900.

Transport and Format

  • Tracks: Half-track stereo record (1/4-track playback capability on some variants); ¼-inch tape, no auto-reverse.

  • Heads: 3 permalloy heads (separate record, playback, erase) for off-tape monitoring.

  • Motors: 3-motor design (hysteresis synchronous capstan + 2 reel motors).

  • Speeds: 1⅞, 3¾, 7½ ips (4.75/9.5/19 cm/s); IEC/NAB EQ.

  • Reels: Up to 7-inch (18 cm), some reports note 10.5-inch compatibility with adapters; rewind ~120 sec for 1800 ft.

Performance Specs

  • Frequency response (±3 dB): 40 Hz–16 kHz (7½ ips).

  • Wow/flutter: <0.075% RMS (7½ ips), <0.11% (3¾ ips).

  • S/N ratio: 55 dB; bias 100 kHz.

Electronics and I/O

  • Inputs: Magnetic phono (47 kΩ/2 mV or ceramic 4 MΩ/40 mV), radio (5–100 mV), mic (200 Ω/50 µV), line (50 kΩ/250 mV).

  • Outputs: RCA line (0.08 V/47 kΩ load).

  • Features: Optional mic/phono preamp swap, concentric L/R level control.

Physical Details

  • Dimensions: 450 × 205 × 335 mm (17.7 × 8.1 × 13.2 in); teak/rosewood finish.

  • Weight: ~16 kg; 220–240 V AC.

  • Production: Less popular than full-featured 2000 De Luxe sibling due to similar price with fewer "goodies."

Audiophile Context

Priced ~£125 in 1968 UK, this precision deck matches Beocord 2000 transport quality for system builders, delivering clean 7½ ips stereo with B&O warmth; collectible for recappable solid-state reliability and fit in Beomaster recesses, though belts/heads need service today.
