Additional Information

The Bang & Olufsen Beocord Stereomaster is a pioneering 1960s stereo reel-to-reel tape recorder, notable for its all-transistor modular design, built-in mixing console, and automatic tape-break stop function—innovations that set it apart in the early hi-fi era.

Core Design and Era

Introduced around 1963, it came in variants like the 610K (tabletop/console) and transportable Type T models, with optional built-in speakers. The modular electronics (eight plug-in boards for amps, oscillators, and power) simplified servicing, while a Pabst synchronous motor ensured stable transport.

Track and Speed Specs

Supports dual 2-track or 4-track (half/quarter-track) stereo recording/playback with separate record/play heads and full erase coverage. Three speeds: 4.75, 9.5, and 19 cm/s (1⅞, 3¾, 7½ ips), handling up to 18cm (7-inch) reels.

Performance Metrics

Frequency response aligns with DIN 1962 standards, with tone controls offering ±10 dB at 50 Hz and 10 kHz. Signal-to-noise exceeds 55 dB (½-track) or 50 dB (¼-track); channel separation >45 dB; wow/flutter meets professional benchmarks for the era. Outputs deliver 8W/channel into 4 ohms or 800 mV line level.

Inputs and Features

Three stereo mixing channels (line/radio/phono/mic) with slide faders and dual VU meters for monitoring. Inputs include mic (50μV), phono (2 mV), and line; erase/bias at 100 kHz. Power: 27W motor + 20W amps, multi-voltage (95–235V).

Physical Specs

Dimensions: 45 x 35 x 21–27 cm (Type K/T); weight 16–18 kg. Features back-monitoring, pause, and fast wind (~120s for full reel).

This deck excelled in professional-amateur use but requires head/drag maintenance today due to age.
