Additional Information

The first transistorised portable tape recorder designed and built in the UK, created by Richard 'Dickie' Stroud (ex-Tannoy, wartime radar) in partnership with Charles 'Chas' Challen of the Challen Instrument Company. A three-motor, single-speed recorder with a 3-inch spool capacity, permanent-magnet erase head, miniature magic-eye modulation display and a 7-transistor amplifier producing about 250 milliwatts, finished in two-tone grey.
