Additional Information
The OKI 555 was a lightweight, solid-state, portable stereo quarter-track tape recorder, complete with two detachable OKIdizine two-way speaker enclosures which formed the lid to the recorder when not in use. The unit featured a rather unconventional set of transport function controls in the form of four levers, two on each side of the head block assembly. Features included two speeds (7.5 and 3.75 ips), sound-on-sound, auto shut-off, tape counter, straight-through amplifier facility, two heads and one motor. Made in Japan, OKI was distributed in the USA by the Newark, New Jersey company of Chancellor Electronics Inc.
