Additional Information

The Revox B36, introduced in 1957, is a significant model in the Revox 36-series, known for combining professional-grade mechanics with features aimed at the serious amateur market. It was the first Revox tape recorder designed for amateurs but offering the performance of a professional machine.

Mechanical and Transport System

  • Three-Motor Transport:
Utilizes the three-motor principle with two reel motors and one synchronous capstan motor, a design inherited from professional machines to virtually eliminate mechanical wear and ensure reliable, precise tape handling.

  • Tape Speeds:
Supports two speeds: 3¾ ips (9.5 cm/s) and 7½ ips (19 cm/s), selectable by pole-changing the synchronous Papst capstan motor.

  • Reel Size:
Compatible with reels up to 10.5 inches (26.5 cm) diameter.

  • Tape Direction:
Available in twin-track and four-track models.

  • Tape Tension:
Adjustable tape tension switch allows use of various spool sizes without compromising tape handling.

  • Operation:
Can be used horizontally or vertically, with spool holders featuring locks for secure mounting.

Heads and Audio System

  • Tape Heads:
The B36 was the first in the series to feature separate record and playback heads, enhancing recording and monitoring accuracy.

  • Amplifiers:
Separate record and replay amplifiers provide improved sound quality.

  • Mono Operation:
Input amplifier can be switched as a mixer for mono operation.

  • Meters:
Equipped with VU meters for level monitoring according to ASA standards.
