Additional Information

The Sony TC-378 is a classic, high-performance consumer reel-to-reel tape deck manufactured in the mid-1970s (approximately 1975–1978). It is a direct successor to the highly popular TC-377, maintaining the most critical features while offering minor technical refinements.

It is renowned for being a reliable, well-specified three-head stereo machine featuring Sony's exceptionally durable Ferrite and Ferrite (F&F) heads.

Key Specifications

  • Heads: 3 ferrite (1 record, 1 playback, 1 erase) for off-tape monitoring

  • Reel size: Up to 7 inches (18 cm)

  • Motors: 1 synchronous motor

  • Frequency response: 30 Hz to 27 kHz (7½ ips); reduced at slower speeds

  • Wow and flutter: 0.09% (7½ ips)

  • Signal-to-noise ratio: 58 dB
