Additional Information
The TEAC 35-2 is a professional-grade, solid-state 4-track, 2-channel stereo reel-to-reel tape deck produced in Japan between 1981 and 1983. It is part of TEAC’s Tascam line, designed for semi-professional and high-fidelity applications.
Track and Head System
4-track, 2-channel stereo/monaural system.
Four heads:
1 x 2-track erase
1 x 2-track record/playback
1 x 4-track playback headHead material: Permalloy, known for durability and high magnetic performance.
Tape Transport and Motors
Three motors:
One DC servo capstan motor for stable tape speed control
Two eddy current induction reel motors for precise tape tension and windingTape speeds: 7½ ips (19 cm/s) and 15 ips (38 cm/s) with ±0.5% speed accuracy and ±6% pitch variation capability.
Supports reels up to 10.5 inches in diameter.
Wow and flutter: 0.03% at 15 ips, less than 0.06% overall.
Bias frequency: 100 kHz.
Sound and Signal Features
Frequency response:
40 Hz to 22 kHz ±3 dB at 15 ips
40 Hz to 18 kHz ±3 dB at 7½ ipsSignal-to-noise ratio: 60 dB without noise reduction; improves to 100 dB with dBx noise reduction engaged.
Total harmonic distortion: 0.6% at 1 kHz, 0 VU.
Noise reduction: dBx incorporated for superior noise suppression.
Crosstalk and channel separation: excellent, typical of professional decks.
Inputs and Outputs
Line input: 60 mV (unbalanced), 50 kΩ impedance.
Line output: 0.45 V (unbalanced).
Microphone input: 1 mV, 10 kΩ impedance.
Headphone output: standard 8 Ω jack.
Connectors: RCA for line and mic inputs/outputs.
Additional Features
Separate transport and amplifier/pre-amplifier units connected by cables stored conveniently in the transport unit.
VU meters for source, tape, calibration, and output levels with peak indicators.
Pitch control allowing ±6% variation for fine tuning.
Robust construction with solid chassis and professional-grade components.
Power requirements: 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, approximately 83–150 W depending on configuration.
Physical Specifications
Dimensions (transport unit): approximately 478 x 419 x 268 mm.
Weight: about 25 kg for transport unit plus 8 kg for amplifier unit, total around 33 kg (72.7 lbs).
