Additional Information

The TEAC A-3300SX is a mid-high fidelity, solid-state 4-track, 2-channel stereo reel-to-reel tape deck produced in Japan between approximately 1972 and 1978. It is designed primarily for consumer use but offers respectable audio performance and build quality.

  • 4-track, 2-channel stereo/monaural system (quarter-track format).

  • Three heads: one erase, one record, and one playback head made of high-hardness permalloy.

  • Head configuration optimized for stereo recording and playback.

Tape Transport and Motors

  • Three motors: one 2-speed hysteresis synchronous capstan motor and two eddy current induction reel motors for stable tape tension and precise speed control.

  • Tape speeds: 3¾ ips (9.5 cm/s) and 7½ ips (19 cm/s).

  • Supports reels up to 10.5 inches (26.5 cm) in diameter.

Frequency Response and Sound Quality

  • Frequency response:
7½ ips: 30 Hz to 28 kHz (some sources specify 40 Hz to 24 kHz)
3¾ ips: 30 Hz to 20 kHz (some sources specify 40 Hz to 12 kHz)

  • Wow and flutter: 0.06% at 7½ ips, 0.09% at 3¾ ips (some sources mention up to 0.18% at 7½ ips).

  • Signal-to-noise ratio: approximately 58 to 65 dB depending on measurement conditions.

  • Total harmonic distortion: about 1%.

  • Channel separation: around 50 to 60 dB at 1 kHz.

Inputs and Outputs

  • Microphone input: 0.25 mV, 600 Ω or more.

  • Line input: 100 mV, 50 kΩ impedance.

  • Line output: 0.3 V, 10 kΩ or more.

  • Headphone output: 8 Ω.

  • Connectors: RCA and DIN types.

Additional Features

  • No auto-reverse function; playback and recording are single-direction.

  • Equipped with expanded scale VU meters for accurate level monitoring.

  • Reel clamper uses a click-lock type for secure reel mounting.

  • Optional accessories include remote control unit (RC-120), dust cover (TZ-440), and portable case (CS-430).

  • Rewind time approximately 140 seconds for 1800 feet of tape.

Physical Specifications

  • Dimensions: approximately 440 x 440 x 210 mm (17½ x 17½ x 8¼ inches).

  • Weight: about 20 kg (44 lbs).

  • Power consumption: around 90 W.

  • Finish: Silver and black with wooden side panels.
