Additional Information

The TEAC A-7030SL is a high-performance stereo reel-to-reel tape deck from the early 1970s, designed primarily for serious audiophiles and professional use. It is part of the A-7030 series, known for its robust build quality, advanced tape transport mechanism, and excellent audio fidelity.

Track and Head System

  • Two-track (half-track), 2-channel stereo recording and playback system, allowing recording and playback in one direction only for improved fidelity and ease of editing.

  • Equipped with four heads: record, erase, playback, and an additional four-track playback head to play standard quarter-track stereo or mono tapes.

  • Front panel switch to select between two-track and four-track playback heads.

Tape Transport and Motors

  • Three-motor system: one 2-speed hysteresis synchronous capstan motor and two eddy current induction reel motors for stable tape tension and precise speed control.

  • Supports large reels up to 10.5 inches (Type 26 / No. 10).

  • Tape speeds: 15 ips (38 cm/s) and 7½ ips (19 cm/s), with ±0.5% speed accuracy.

  • Wow and flutter: 0.05% at 15 ips, 0.06% at 7½ ips.

  • Early winding time approximately 90 seconds for 370 meters (1200 feet) of tape.

Performance Specifications

  • Frequency response:
    15 ips: 40 Hz to 20 kHz
    7½ ips: 30 Hz to 20 kHz (±3 dB)

  • Signal-to-noise ratio: 55–60 dB, depending on tape speed and track format.

  • Crosstalk: 40 dB.

  • Distortion: approximately 1% at reference level.

  • Stereo separation: around 50–60 dB at 1 kHz.

Inputs and Outputs

  • Microphone input: 0.25–0.5 mV sensitivity, 600 Ω to 10 kΩ impedance.

  • Line input: 100 mV, 50 kΩ or higher impedance.

  • Line output: 1 V nominal.

  • Headphone output: 8 Ω.

  • Connectors: RCA and DIN types.

Additional Features

  • Large, expanded-scale VU meters for precise level monitoring.

  • Soft-touch push-button controls with micro-switches and relays for smooth operation.

  • Foil sensing stop function for auto-stop or auto-rewind by attaching conductive foil to tape ends.

  • Tape tension switching system to accommodate different reel sizes and tape thicknesses, protecting valuable tapes.

  • Cue function to locate specific tape sections during fast forward.

  • Independent microphone and line input level controls with mixing capability.

  • Simultaneous monitoring function to compare source input and tape playback during recording.

  • Bias current selector and equalizer level selector to optimize recording for different tape types, including low-noise tapes.

  • Compatible with optional remote control unit (RC-701), pause control unit (RC-604), and acrylic dust cover (TZ-611).

  • Solid aluminum top panel and die-cast frame chassis for durability and vibration resistance.

Physical Specifications

  • Dimensions: approximately 447 mm (W) x 536 mm (H) x 240 mm (D).

  • Weight: about 28 kg (62 lbs).

  • Power consumption: approximately 150 W at 100 VAC, 50/60 Hz.
