Additional Information

The TEAC A-6010 is a high-quality 4-track, 2-channel stereo reel-to-reel tape deck produced in the late 1960s, designed for audiophiles demanding excellent sound performance and reliable operation.

Track and Head System

  • 4-track, 2-channel stereo system.

  • Four heads: 2 playback heads (forward and reverse), 1 erase head, and 1 record head.

  • The extra playback head enables automatic reverse playback without needing to flip the tape manually.

Tape Transport and Motors

  • Three motors: two reel motors and one 2-speed hysteresis synchronous capstan motor for stable tape speed and tension control.

  • Tape speeds: 3¾ ips (9.5 cm/s) and 7½ ips (19 cm/s) with ±0.5% accuracy.

  • Supports reels up to 7 inches in diameter.

  • Wow and flutter: 0.08% at 7½ ips.

  • Automatic stop mechanism when tape reaches the end or after rewind.

Performance Specifications

  • Frequency response: 30 Hz to 20 kHz (±3 dB) at 7½ ips.

  • Signal-to-noise ratio: 55 dB.

  • Crosstalk: 40 dB.

  • Bias frequency: 100 kHz to reduce beat noise and improve recording quality.

Inputs and Outputs

  • Line input: 100 mV (300 kΩ impedance), mixable with microphone input.

  • Microphone input: 0.5 mV (10 kΩ impedance).

  • Line output: 0–1 V (10 kΩ load or more).

  • Headphone output: 8 Ω.

  • RCA connectors for line-level signals; DIN connectors also present.

Additional Features

  • Mic/line mixing capability with independent level controls.

  • Large 3½-inch VU meters for monitoring recording and playback levels.

  • Tape tension switch for normal and thin tapes.

  • Plug-in type heads for easy maintenance and alignment.

  • Foil-sensing auto-reverse system using phase signal detection for seamless direction change.

  • Delay circuit in the transport mechanism to stabilize tape movement when switching direction.

  • Solid wooden cabinet with stainless steel hairline front panel.

  • Remote control capability.

  • 4-digit mechanical tape counter with reset.

  • Dimensions: approximately 533 x 444.5 x 210 mm (W x H x D).

  • Weight: about 31.8 kg (70 lbs).
