TEAC A-6300 MKII

The TEAC A-6300 MKII is a mid-high fidelity, solid-state 4-track, 2-channel stereo reel-to-reel tape deck produced in Japan between 1978 and 1983. It is an evolution of the earlier A-6300 model with enhancements in features and usability, designed primarily for consumer and semi-professional use.

Track and Head System

• 4-track, 2-channel stereo format (quarter-track recording/playback).

• Four heads: one erase, one record, and two playback heads, enabling bi-directional playback.

• Heads made of high-hardness permalloy with a hyperbolic shape for stable head contact, reduced contour effect, and clear low-frequency response.

Frequency Response and Sound Quality

• Frequency response: 40 Hz to 24 kHz at 7½ ips (±3 dB), and 40 Hz to 16 kHz at 3¾ ips.

• Signal-to-noise ratio: about 65 dB (3% weighted).

• Harmonic distortion: approximately 1% at 1 kHz reference level.

• Channel separation: around 50 to 60 dB at 1 kHz.

• Crosstalk and noise performance suitable for high-quality stereo recording and playback.

Inputs and Outputs

• Inputs: 2 microphone inputs (0.25 mV, 600 Ω or more), 2 line inputs (0.1 V, 50 kΩ).

• Outputs: 2 line outputs (0.3 V, 10 kΩ), 1 headphone output (8 Ω).

• Counter repeat playback mechanism combined with Oatley berth system for automatic tape reversal and repeat loops.

• Auto spacer function (extension of Rec Mute) that creates a programmable silent interval (3 to 8 seconds) during recording pauses, useful for inserting gaps between songs or commercials.

• Timer recording capability with optional external timer control.

• Recording mode standby lamp that flashes when recording is armed and lights steadily during recording.
