Additional Information
The Teac A-6700DX is a semi-professional reel-to-reel tape deck produced in Japan starting in 1978, designed primarily for studio use and high-fidelity audio applications. It features a separate transport and preamplifier unit connected by cables stored in a compartment at the back of the transport.
Track System:
1/2 track recording and playback plus 1/4 track playback capability.Tape Speeds:
7½ inches per second (ips) (19 cm/s)
15 ips (38 cm/s)
Both speeds have a tolerance of ±0.5%.Heads:
Four heads total:
Erase head (full track)
Two-track record heads made of cobalt-amorphous material
Two-track playback heads made of Permalloy.Motors:
Three motors:
Capstan motor is an FG servo DC motor for precise speed control
Two reel motors are eddy current types for smooth tape tension and transport.Frequency Response:
25 Hz to 28 kHz at both 7½ and 15 ips, indicating very wide and flat response suitable for high-fidelity recording and playback.Wow and Flutter:
0.03% at 15 ips
0.06% at 7½ ips (weighted RMS), reflecting excellent speed stability.Signal-to-Noise Ratio:
60 dB (NAB equalization).Distortion:
Approximately 0.6% at reference level.Stereo Separation:
50 dB at 1 kHz.Rewind Time:
Approximately 160 seconds for a 550-meter tape.Inputs and Outputs:
Microphone input: 0.25 mV / -72 dB / 600 Ω or higher
Line input: 60 mV / 50 kΩ
Line output: 0.45 V / load 10 kΩ or higher
RCA connectors.Equalization:
NAB and IEC standards supported, with bias adjustment settings from 100% to 150% and recording EQ adjustable from 1 to 10.Transport and Tape Handling:
Full logic controls for function switching without engaging stop.
Tension servo and impedance roller maintain proper tape tension and absorb uneven running due to flywheel effects.
No auto-reverse feature.Physical Dimensions and Weight:
Transport unit: 419 x 478 x 268 mm, weighing 25 kg
Preamplifier unit: 177 x 478 x 237 mm, weighing 8 kg.Power:
100 V (Japan standard).Additional Features:
RCA tape head output allows connection to external tape head preamplifiers.
Optional external DBX noise reduction unit (RX-15) can be connected.
Peak level indicator and separate left and right recording fine input adjustments with master control.Market and Rarity:
Designed exclusively for the Japanese market.
Very rare, with few units found outside Japan.
