Additional Information

The TEAC A-6100 is a high-quality, semi-professional 2-track, 2-channel stereo reel-to-reel tape deck produced from the mid-1970s to around 1980. It is designed for serious home audiophiles and semi-pro use, featuring solid-state electronics, precise tape transport, and excellent sound performance.

  • Tape Format and Heads: It uses a 2-track, 2-channel stereo/monaural system with 4 heads—2 playback, 1 erase, and 1 record head—allowing full live recording and editing functions.

  • Tape Speeds and Reel Size: The deck supports two tape speeds, 7.5 and 15 inches per second (IPS), and can accommodate reels up to 10.5 inches in diameter.

  • Motors: It is equipped with three motors—two reel motors (6-pole eddy current motors) and one capstan motor (4/8 pole hysteresis synchronous motor)—for precise tape handling and speed stability.

  • Frequency Response and Wow & Flutter: At 15 IPS, the frequency response ranges from approximately 40 Hz to 26-28 kHz, with wow and flutter around 0.15% to 0.18%, indicating very stable playback quality.

  • Signal Levels and Inputs: The microphone input sensitivity is 0.25 mV with a 3-stage microphone attenuator (0, 15, 30 dB) to reduce distortion during recording. Line input is 0.1 V with high impedance (50k Ω).

  • VU and Peak Level Meters: The A-6100 features both average (VU) and peak level indicators. The peak level indicator uses LEDs with a memory holding circuit that lights for 70 ms, facilitating accurate peak detection. The lighting level adjusts according to tape speed and tape type.

  • Equalization: It uses NAB equalization standard, common for professional tape decks.

  • Physical Dimensions and Weight: The deck measures approximately 440 mm wide, 520 mm high, and 210 mm deep, weighing about 22 kg.

  • Additional Features: The deck supports 4-track playback, has a white-mark microphone volume setting for easy level adjustment, and offers optional accessories such as an acrylic cover, remote control unit, timer control adapter, and portable case.

  • Build Quality: Known for its reliable construction and long-term durability, the A-6100 is regarded as a solid performer in vintage audio circles
