Additional Information

The TEAC X-1000M is a solid-state, 4-head reel-to-reel tape deck designed for high-fidelity stereo recording and playback, with versatile track and speed options suitable for audiophiles and semi-professional use.

  • Track System: Switchable 2-track (2-channel stereo or mono) recording/playback and 4-track playback modes, enabled by a 4-track playback head alongside separate erase, record, and 2-track playback heads.

  • Tape Speeds: Dual speeds of 7½ ips (19 cm/s) and 15 ips (38 cm/s), with wow and flutter rated at 0.04% at 15 ips, indicating excellent speed stability.

  • Heads: Four Permalloy heads (erase, record, 2-track playback, and 4-track playback) allowing flexible operation and compatibility with various tape formats.

  • Motors: Three motors including two DC slotless reel motors and one capstan motor with FG servo control for precise tape transport.

  • Frequency Response: Approximately 30 Hz to 36 kHz (±3 dB) at 15 ips and 30 Hz to 34 kHz (±3 dB) at 7½ ips, supporting wide-band audio reproduction.

  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio: Around 50 dB without noise reduction, improving to about 100 dB when using the optional dbx noise reduction system.

  • Total Harmonic Distortion: Approximately 0.8% at 1 kHz, normal operating level.

  • Crosstalk: About 40 dB, with stereo separation around 50 dB at 1 kHz.

  • Inputs and Outputs: Line input sensitivity of 60 mV, microphone input sensitivity of 0.25 mV, and line output of 0.4 V. Outputs are typically RCA connectors.

  • Reel Size: Accepts reels up to 10.5 inches (Type 26 NAB reels) with removable NAB spool adapters for smaller reels.

  • Additional Features:
Left/right independent recording mode switches for safety and flexibility.
    Pitch control with ±5% variation.
Tape lifter mechanism for monitoring tape during fast forward/rewind.
Digital tape counter for precise tape positioning.
Large illuminated VU meters for accurate level monitoring.
Wooden or plastic case options, with the wooden case adding weight (~26 kg total).

  • Physical Dimensions and Weight: Approximately 472 x 486 x 262 mm with wooden case; weight around 22 kg (48.5 lbs).

  • Manufacture: Made in Japan, released in the early 1980s.
