Additional Information
The TEAC 2000R (also known as the X-2000R) is a high-performance, auto-reverse, 4-track, 2-channel stereo reel-to-reel tape deck produced from the mid-1980s. It is designed for audiophiles and semi-professional users, featuring advanced technology for precise analog tape recording and playback.
Track and Head System
4-track, 2-channel stereo/monaural system with six heads:
2 playback heads (cobalt amorphous)
2 record heads (cobalt amorphous)
2 erase heads (ferrite)Fixed head mounting similar to professional decks for stable tape contact and minimal head wear.
Tape Transport and Motors
Three motors:
One FG servo DC motor driving the capstan for stable tape speed control
Two slotless DC motors driving the reels with full tension servo control for optimum tape tensionClosed-loop dual capstan drive system for precise tape motion and reduced wow and flutter.
Tape speeds: 3¾ ips (9.5 cm/s) and 7½ ips (19 cm/s) with ±0.5% speed accuracy.
Supports reels up to 10.5 inches (No. 10 size).
Wow and flutter: 0.03% at 7½ ips (WRMS).
Tape tension servo controlled by photo-interrupter sensing the tension arm position, eliminating manual reel switching.
Sound and Signal Features
Frequency response:
7½ ips: 30 Hz to 40 kHz (±3 dB)
3¾ ips: 30 Hz to 24 kHz (±3 dB)Signal-to-noise ratio: 65 dB (weighted, 1 kHz, 3% THD), improving to 100 dB with dbx noise reduction engaged.
Total harmonic distortion: 0.8%.
Dynamic range: 115 dB with dbx.
Stereo separation: 50 dB at 1 kHz.
Bias and erase frequency: 150 kHz.
Recording level: +6 dB (185 nWb/m at 0 VU).
Equipped with dbx noise reduction system for enhanced dynamic range and noise suppression.
Inputs and Outputs
Microphone input: 0.25 mV (-72 dB), compatible with 200 Ω or higher impedance microphones.
Line input: 60 mV, 50 kΩ impedance.
Line output: 0.45 V for 10 kΩ load or more.
Headphone output: up to 100 mW into 8 Ω.
Connectors: RCA for line and mic I/O.
