The TEAC X-300R is a solid-state, mid-high fidelity, 4-track, 2-channel stereo reel-to-reel tape deck produced from 1983 to 1991. It is an auto-reverse version of the TEAC X-300, designed for consumer and audiophile use with a good balance of features and affordability.
Track and Head System
4-track, 2-channel stereo system (quarter-track format).
Three heads: one erase, one record, and one playback head made of permalloy.
Uses a 4-channel playback head configuration to enable auto-reverse playback by switching between tracks 1 & 3 (forward) and 2 & 4 (reverse).
Tape Transport and Motors
Three motors: one DC servo motor driving the capstan and two induction reel motors for tape tension and winding.
Tape speeds: 3¾ ips (9.5 cm/s) and 7½ ips (19 cm/s).
Supports 5- and 7-inch reels (maximum reel size 7").
Wow and flutter: approximately 0.06% at 7½ ips.
Rewind time: about 120 seconds for 1800 feet of tape.
