Additional Information
The Technics RS-777 is a compact auto-reverse reel-to-reel tape deck from the late 1970s, part of Technics' 1978 lineup alongside flagships like the RS-1500 series, featuring the Isolated Loop tape path for low modulation noise and high stability.
It uses a 4-track, 2-channel stereo system with speeds of 1⅞, 3¾, 7½, and supporting up to 7-inch reels under NAB equalization. Wow and flutter measures 0.018% at higher speeds, frequency response spans 30-30,000 Hz (±3 dB), signal-to-noise ratio is 57 dB, and it includes RCA outputs with Sendust heads.
Equipped with six heads in the RP-2R2P block, three motors including a quartz-locked direct-drive 34mm capstan with dual pinch rollers, electronic tension control (low ~80g), logic braking, ±6% pitch control, cueing, and unique two-color digital fluorescent meters. Dimensions are 373 x 430 x 259 mm, weighing 22 kg, optimized for Japanese market with 100V power.
Produced from 1978 to 1986 in Japan as a mid-high fidelity consumer model (code-named "The 7"), the RS-777 offered flagship transport tech in a smaller footprint, ideal for space-conscious audiophiles but best with fresher tapes due to lighter tension.
