Long-running battery-operated portable Hi-Fi field recorder family sold from 1973-1983 with over 600,000 units produced, used by organizations including NATO, the Ministry of Defence, NASA and the BBC. Offered as mono quarter-track (4000), half-track (4200) or stereo quarter-track (4400), all sharing four tape speeds, tape tension regulation, an integrated-circuit power stage, an internal speaker and a rugged aluminium die-cast frame. Wow and flutter better than 0.20% at 7½ ips, with a high-speed motor providing stability even under vibration or movement.
