Additional Information
Enduring, professional-grade portable field-recording series first released in 1961 and produced in many variants (4000, 4000 L, 4000S, and the later IC-based 4000/4200/4400 series) into the 1980s. Half-track (later also quarter-track) mono, battery-operated, with four playing speeds and a frequency response extending up to 20kHz. Motor speed control used a sophisticated transistorized regulation circuit. Became one of the most widely used portable recorders in broadcast reporting.
