British consumer valve reel-to-reel (Wyndsor Recording Co. Ltd., London), late 1950s, built - like many small British makers - around a bought-in transport, here the Collaro Mk IV transcription unit (bidirectional, two motors, two head sets). Configuration: half-track mono, 7-inch reels, three speeds (15, 7.5 and 3.75 ips); EM84 'ribbon' valve record-level indicator; independent monitoring gain; high-impedance CCIR output socket. Audio/physical: a 2 W amplifier drives a 10 x 6-inch elliptical speaker in the detachable lid (usable as an amplifier alone); rewind ~65 s for 1,200 ft; 381 x 383 x 267 mm; about 16 kg.
