Additional information
The Bang & Olufsen Beogram 6002 (Type 5641) is a tangential tracking turntable produced from 1983 to 1986. It was designed as an affordable, reliable alternative within the Beolab 6000 family, providing excellent playback quality with simplified features compared to higher-end models.
Technical Overview
Tonearm: Tangential (linear) tracking arm designed to follow the record groove precisely, reducing distortion and record wear. However, unlike earlier microprocessor-controlled models, the arm positioning is simplified using optical hole sensors for common record sizes.
Cartridge: MMC 3 moving magnet cartridge recommended, with a tracking force of 12 mN (1.2 g).
Speeds: Automatic detection and switching between 33⅓ and 45 rpm with manual override buttons.
Wow and Flutter: DIN weighted less than 0.07%
Rumble:
DIN weighted better than 70 dB
Unweighted better than 45 dBTangential Tracking Accuracy: Better than 0.04°
Drive System: Belt drive with a simple DC servo motor and built-in speed governor (speed stability is good but with higher deviation compared to quartz-locked systems)
Signal-to-Noise Ratio: Typical for the design, sufficient for high fidelity playback.
Power Supply: 100 V AC for type 5641 (other variants for different voltages: 5643 for 120 V, 5645 for 220 V, 5646 for 240 V)
Power Consumption: Approximately 17 W
Dimensions (W x H x D): 49 x 9 x 37.5 cm
Weight: Approx. 9 kg
Additional Features:
Automatic record size identification using photodiode sensors
One-way data link for remote start/stop control integrated with Beomaster 6000
Simplified control system based on transistors and logic ICs as opposed to microprocessor control
Design by Jacob Jensen with available finishes including rosewood and teak wood veneers
Summary
The Beogram 6002 Type 5641 is a practical, well-engineered turntable that offers the benefits of tangential tracking with reliable performance. Though streamlined compared to premium models like the Beogram 8002, it still produces excellent sound quality, is gentle on vinyl, and integrates well with Bang & Olufsen's Beosystem 6000 components. It's valued for its simplicity and robust build, though it lacks the quartz-locking and advanced control features found in higher-end Beograms.
