Additional information

The Garrard 5-300 is an automatic record changer equipped with a sub-plate mechanism. It can play up to eight records, depending on the cartridge depth and record thickness. It was marketed as a lower-priced version of the 6-300 Unimech record changer.

  • Tonearm: Features a low-mass tubular pickup arm that accepts Garrard clip-in cartridges and most single-hole, central-fixing cartridges with an adapter plate. A special pickup shell is needed for cartridges with a 2-hole fixing arrangement.

  • Mechanism: It utilizes a Unimech subchassis derived from the CC10 minichanger.

  • Controls: The controls are derived from the CC10, with their linkage to the sub-plate mechanism differing from the Model CC10. There is no automatic pickup arm safety clip.

  • Additional Features: It includes a cueing facility and an adjustable bias compensator1.

  • Platter: It features a larger turntable than the Model CC10.

  • Mounting: The unit plate and spring mounting system allow units having a mechanism of the Garrard Autoslim type to be used on the same board.

  • Lower-priced versions: Lower priced models 5-200 and 5-100 existed. The 5-200 lacked cueing and antiskate, while the 5-100 also had a smaller platter3. The tonearms on these models are simple, with no counterweight and a tracking weight adjustment screw in the plastic arm housing
