Additional information
The Garrard SL55B is a fully-automatic idler-drive turntable that was manufactured by Garrard Eng. & Mfg. Co. Ltd. in Swindon, England. It is similar to the Garrard 50 Mk II but is equipped with a "Synchro Lab" motor instead of the standard 4 pole induction type motor. The SL55B can play up to 8 mixed records automatically at 7", 10", or 12" diameter, and it is available in different voltages and colors.
The turntable uses a synchronous motor that attains running speed using induction principles and then locks the rotor to run synchronously with the frequency of the power supply. It features a steel platter and a partial counterweight at the rear, with a much lighter upward-pulling spring for tracking weight adjustment.
The Garrard SL55B uses an idler wheel type 1499-72, which is a crucial part for its operation.
